On the Verge is a community-driven project based in Stirling, Scotland. Founded in 2010, we collaborate with community groups across Stirling and Clackmannanshire to establish thriving areas of native wildflowers. We work with schools, churches, sports clubs, youth groups, care homes, businesses, landowners; anybody who is interested in establishing pollinator friendly areas of wildflowers.
Wild bee populations have been in steady decline for a variety of reasons, some of which we don’t fully understand yet. But one thing is clear: a big part of the problem is the loss of flowers in the countryside, mainly due to large-scale farming. As a result, bees and other pollinators are changing their foraging habits and often gravitate to our gardens, attracted by the nectar-rich plants found there. But our gardens alone may not be enough.
That’s where On the Verge comes in. By creating wildflower-rich spaces in both urban and rural areas, we can build a network of feeding stations that sustain native bees. Our mission is to help restore these vital habitats and support pollinators in the places we live. Join us in making a difference for bees and the environment!
If you're interested in creating a wildflower patch, we’ll help you every step of the way. From identifying the right site, to preparing the land, and supplying free seed, we provide all the guidance you need to ensure long-term success.
We also offer support to groups managing existing wildflower areas, or looking to develop areas of grassland as a wildflower meadow, through our community meadows project.
